Mind over matter? How much does mind matter?

Ever since I was young... Ok, maybe I'm still young now! But regardless, when I was YOUNGER, the first thing you would notice about me was the large size of my head. Sure, it was still very cute, but imagine a small little 9 year old filipino boy with an unusually large head. Kids can be so cruel. I've had many nicknames refering to my upper hemisphere. They ranged from, jerDOME, Big Head, and even Bobby (from Bobby's world for all those who remember that cartoon). Even when I was a baby, my mom took me to the doctor. Why you ask? Because she was concerned my head was retaining water! So why am I sharing some of the most embarassing moments in my life with you here today?

This past Sunday during our 6 pm mass, Fr. Carlos mentioned in his homily that we sometimes fail to put importance on the heart and rather we place more emphasis on our minds. Imagine the disappointment of this now 22 year old filipino sitting in the first pew to hear this! I thought with my big head I was a shoe in for smart, since i have more space for a larger brain, but now it's not as important as we think?!?

Haha... But in all seriousness this homily touched close to home. We focus so much sometimes on everything else, and unknowingly push aside the spiritual. As Fr. Carlos said the world of today rewards those who are cunning and smart, but pushes aside the big hearted. How about ourselves? How much do we focus on our spiritual growth?

So my new goal: for people to see my big heart, rather than my big head.
