Pope Benedict XVI said during World Youth Day 2006 that we (the youth) are not the Church of tomorrow, but instead we are the Church of now. Think about it. How powerful is that statement? We as youth of our Church, especially of our local parish, have been empowerd through God's graces to make a difference. Being Catholic doesn't start at the age of 30 after marriage and a few kids. Our generation is extremely blessed. Never before have the youth been given so many different outlets in expressing and growing in our faith. In our parish at St. Christopher's alone we have more than 3 youth groups, post-confirmation classes, 3 awesome parish priests at our disposal, and much more. Have we taken advantage of all of this?
With this blog I've posted a picture taken during the vigil with our Holy Father during World Youth Day 2006. We are the "light of the world" (Matt. 5:14). Being the Church of today, we must first feed that fire, so that our lights may burn brightly. Second, we must share the light, because salvation is not just meant for a select few, but instead for the world.
Again we are not the Church of tomorrow, we are the Church of NOW.
